Juan Fernandez broke a tie with a three-run homer in the top of the ninth, helping the TinCaps claim a 7-4 win to end their series at Bowling Green.
The TinCaps had gone 23 straight innings without scoring entering Monday afternoon. That streak ended with Kelvin Melean’s RBI double in the first. Bowling Green scored all four of its runs over the first two frames, carrying a 4-1 lead into the fifth.
The ‘Caps got a pair of runs in that fifth inning, and they tied the game in the seventh on a throwing error from Hot Rods’ second baseman Vidal Brujan.
Travis Radke went the final 2.1 innings on the mound, allowing no base runners with three strikeouts. He picked up the win, thanks in large part to Fernandez’s homer.
