Weathers has rough debut, TinCaps lose series opener at Great Lakes

New TinCap Ryan Weathers had a bumpy ride in his first Fort Wayne start.

The seventh overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft got tagged for five runs (three unearned) in a short outing, as the TinCaps fell 6-3 to start their series at Great Lakes.

Multiple fielding errors in the third inning allowed the Loons to pick up their first three runs. Josh McClain added a couple earned runs with a two-run single in the fourth, chasing Weathers after 3.1 innings.

The TinCaps didn’t score until a wild pitch allowed Jalen Washington to come home in the seventh. Gabriel Arias added a two-run homer in the ninth to make the final score a bit closer.

The TinCaps and Loons continue their series Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
