Fort Wayne, Ind. (WPTA21) – Marian handed two time defending NAIA national champ Saint Francis its first loss in two years with a 37-28 win over the Cougars Saturday night.
The Knights, ranked sixth and like top ranked USF unbeaten, bottled up the Saint Francis offense, holding a 2-1 edge in possession time, outgaining USF 480-140 in total offensive yards, and running 87 offensive plays to just 39 for the Cougars, wearing out the USF defense.
Matt Crable did throw for two touchdowns, but passed for only 77 yards and was also the leading USF rusher with 38 yards on nine carrries with a touchdown.
