People across the Fort light candles to remember the death of a little boy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – People across the Fort gathered at Headwaters Park on Thursday evening for a candlelight memorial to remember a little boy who was killed exactly a year ago.

Over 30 people came together and lit their candles to remember two-year-old Malakai Garrett. People shared their thoughts, feelings and stories of how the little boy has impacted them.

People said they came to the memorial to support a community they consider as family.

“It’s about a lost loved one and becoming a family, and when you support one family that family wants to support you too in your time of need,” Timika Bonner, a JAVA member said.

“I wish I can hold him,” Lantz Garrett, Malakai’s father said. “I wish I can tell him I love him one more time.”
