FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — The deep freeze is still affecting Fort Wayne Community Schools, with the buses still needing to thaw out.
Krista Stockman, the public information officer for Fort Wayne Community Schools, says the school decided to remain closed Friday due to transportation issues. The buses need time to warm up before they can run again, but Thursday’s temperatures did not help out.
Fort Wayne Community Schools has been closed since the deep freeze began Wednesday when dangerously cold temperatures plunged down to -13º, with wind chills around -40 at its peak.
This will cause an extension of the school year beyond its original last day of class. Students will make up the lost school day on Friday, May 31.
District offices for Fort Wayne Community Schools will be open Friday.
