FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Lutheran Hospital was locked down for around an hour Tuesday morning after a child custody issue.
The lockdown was lifted around 11:45. Fort Wayne police say it was a child custody issue. The child’s mother told police the child was going to be released today and the father left the hospital with him while the nurse was going over the discharge paperwork.
The father had been to the hospital through the week to visit and had visitation rights. The hospital staff told police they were concerned because they had not given him all the discharge instructions before he left.
Police said the mother told them she did not think the father would hurt the child but she did not want him to have the child.
The officers told her that she needed to get a protective order for all her children to help protect them in the future. They said this would be a custody dispute and there would be no abduction or AMBER Alert needed.
