DEFIANCE, Ohio (AP) — Police in Ohio say an officer shot and killed a man while investigating a disturbance call at a duplex.
Defiance police say the shooting Tuesday morning came after officers earlier had been called to the home twice in the 12 hours leading up to the shooting.
The city’s police chief says the first call was for a report of a sex offense, but he doesn’t know if those calls were related to the disturbance.
Police haven’t released the names of the officer or the man who died. Chief Todd Shafer says the man didn’t live at the home.
Shafer tells The Crescent-News there hasn’t been another fatal shooting involving city police during his more than two decades on the job and he can’t remember one in the past 50 years.
