DIGGING DEEPER: ‘Dying on the Job’ bill passes Senate unanimously

INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) – A bill that grew out of an ABC21 Digging Deeper investigation into workplace safety passed the Indiana Senate unanimously Tuesday afternoon and is expected to land on the governor’s desk in the near future.

HB 1341 must first undergo reconciliation, as the Assembly and Senate versions differ slightly due to amendments.

Both versions would substantially increase the penalties leveled against companies that clearly disregard worker safety, leading to a fatality.

The full Senate vote follows passage in the Pensions and Labor Committee by an 8-2 margin one week earlier.
