Fort Wayne Rescue Mission breaks ground on new location

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Community leaders gathered for a groundbreaking celebration Tuesday morning for the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.

Leaders with the mission other business and community members turned the dirt on the grounds where the city’s new Rescue Mission will be built. The new location will be at the corner of Washington and Lafayette.

The funding and planning have been in the works for three years. The new facility will be able to serve three times as many people as it currently does and will include amenities like classrooms and learning centers.

Donovan Coley, who leads the mission, says they still need about three million dollars to cap off the “city on the hill capital campaign”, and now he’s turning to the community, the backbone of this whole process.

Coley also says the new facility is a gift to the homeless and the poor in our community.

The Rescue Mission hopes to have things completed by September 2020.
