FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) — National Record Store Day is Saturday and local record shops are ready to celebrate.
At the three Fort Wayne Wooden Nickel locations, more than 400 new vinyl releases will be available starting at 8 a.m.
They’re located on North Anthony Blvd., North Clinton Street and West Jefferson Blvd.
At the North Anthony location, a neighborhood party is taking place. Live music starts inside the store at 9 a.m. and later in the day, bands will be playing outside in the beer tent as well.
“This is my 41st year selling music, and to see the type of crowds we get for this just gives me chills because to see our business continue to grow, even after we had some difficulties with downloading, streaming and some of the other things that sort of took away from physical product, to see this many people coming out and buying physical product on a Saturday is just amazing to me,” said owner Bob Roets.
In addition to the festivities, the stores will have special “vinyl rock t-shirts” available for sale. They come with a record store day poster.
Roets said that five dollars from each purchase will be donated to the Community Harvest Food Bank.
