STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) — A car crash on Saturday morning killed three people, including two children, and sent two others to the hospital – one in critical condition.
It happened at the intersection of Old 27 at County Road 800 South just before 11:40 a.m.
Patricia Bittle, 22, was driving a sedan westbound on County Road 800 South with four passengers in her car. Deputies say Bittle stopped at the stop sign, and then drove into the path of a pick-up truck pulling a loaded trailer.
Bittle was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Her two young children, Rhiannon, 6, and Madelyn, 18-months-old, were killed in the crash.
An adult passenger in Bittle’s backseat, Stephanie Hogan, 25, was also killed in the crash.
Bittle’s front seat passenger, Samson Cole, 31, was also hurt and sent to the hospital.
The driver of the pick-up was not injured.
Police do not believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.

On Saturday, May 25th, the Taco Bell restaurant on 3075 W. Maumee in Angola is hosting a group fundraising night to support the family of Stephanie Hogan.

On 5-4-2019 at approximately 11:35 a.m., Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Old 27 at CR 800 S. in Steuben County reference to a vehicle crash. While investigation the crash it was determined that Patricia L. Bittle, age 22 of Montpelier. OH. Was westbound on C.R. 800 S. in a gold 2002 Dodge Intrepid. Patricia stopped at the stop sign at Old 27 and CR 800 S and then entered the intersection. Patricia failed to yield the right of way to a northbound gray Chevrolet Silverado pulling a loaded trailer driven by Jeffery L. Durkes, age 45 of Harlan, IN. Durkes was uninjured in the crash. Patricia was taken by ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Injured or Deceased:
– Rhiannon Momenee, age 6 of Montpelier, OH was a rear passenger in the Dodge Intrepid and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office
– Madelyn Bittle, age 18 months of Montpelier, OH was a rear passenger in the Dodge Intrepid and was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition and later died of her injuries.
– Stephanie D. Hogan, age 25 of Auburn, IN., was a rear passenger in the Dodge Intrepid and was ejected at the time of the crash. Hogan was transported by ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition and later died of her injuries.
– Samson Cole, age 31 of Bryan, OH, was a front passenger in the Dodge Intrepid and was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
