Fort Wayne man sentenced to more than 100 years for step-brother’s murder

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A Fort Wayne man convicted of killing his step-brother was sentenced to 117 years in prison on Monday, including 20 years for being a habitual offender.

In April, a jury convicted 37-year old Joshua Mackin of murder and other charges in the February 2018 shooting death of Samuel Westlake in the parking lot of the Suburban Extended Stay hotel on Coliseum Boulevard.

Witnesses claimed Mackin was angry with Westlake because he believed Westlake slept with his girlfriend.

Mackin’s lawyer indicated he would seek to appeal the sentence.

Corinne Rose reported this story.
