FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — If you’ve driven down West Jefferson Boulevard you may have seen a large building under construction and wondered what it is. Turns out, you’re not the only one wondering.
Pat Sullivan says people in the Covington Creek neighborhood are concerned about what used to be a small home is now a more than 8,000 square foot building.
According to the Journal Gazette, the builder, Martin Quintana, first claimed he was putting up a large garage attached to the home.
However, according to documents filed with the city, he is now seeking to re-zone the property for commercial use including a restaurant.
Quintana is now asking for a waiver because the building is too close to a property line for commercial use. This is something that has Sullivan asking questions.
“We understand this is a commercial area. It is the unknown about what is going to be back there. Will it be open 24 hours a day? Will lights be on all the time? Will it be loud? Will it be lots of parking, lots of coming and going? Again, it’s the unknown that is our biggest concern to know what’s going to be in there,” Sullivan said.
Quintana owns Mexican restaurants in Fort Wayne including Famous Taco and Las Lomas.
We reached out to Quintana for comment. He said we need to speak to his attorney. But when we asked who his attorney was Quintana hung up the call.
Correction: The original article inaccurately stated the Journal Gazette was the first to report on the issue.
