This is my first summer in 21 Country and traveling around to find out why life’s better here is not always easy when the weather is so hot.
But lucky for me, Whitley County offers the perfect place to beat the heat.
“People need to visit Whitley County and visit our Russell and Evelyn Fahl Aquatics Center,” said Jennifer Romano, executive director for the Whitley County Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a great place to spend a hot day, an overcast day, really any day this summer. We have water slides there, swimming, a children’s area.”
Water slides, splash sprinklers, swimming areas and more. All kinds of fun in the water can be had at the Fahl Aquatics Center in Columbia City. Pack your swim suit, grab a towel, and hop in to make it through these dog days of summer.
Cooling off is always nice, but there’s a lot more in Columbia City. First Fridays similar to those in other communities are held through October in Columbia City along with other events like Art in the Alley and the J.A. Car Show.
“We are excited for those different events that are happening and certainly 4-H fair is happening and Old Settlers is happening along with a lot of other really cool things that are happening in this community throughout the summer months,” said Mayor Ryan Daniel.
Any day is a good day in Columbia City. There are so many places to explore and new things to experience.
“There are a lot of great coffee shops and eateries around the town square, and just a lot of unique things that make our community great,” Daniel said.
If you visit Whitley County, you won’t only find great things to do, you’ll also find great people.
“The people obviously are what make us who we are,” Daniel said. “Wonderful, giving, community–oriented individuals who give their time and energy.”
But don’t just take the mayor’s word for it.
“We often hear people remark about coming to Whitley County that it’s a warm and caring community and we see that all the time. When somethings happened in the community everyone is really quick to come together and support each other, so it’s really good that way,” Romano said. “You really can’t go through our towns and community without somebody smiling and waving so you really feel warm and welcome here.”
