HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – Police are examining evidence after a Warren woman was sexually assaulted by a home invader.
Investigators are holding their cards close, but Huntington County Sheriff Chris Newton says the attack happened during the last week of July. He says a man broke into a woman’s home under the cover of darkness and sexually assaulted her.
Newton says they do have a person of interest in mind, but cannot call him a suspect yet. Before that can happen, laboratory testing is needed.
Detectives collected DNA evidence from the victim and from the scene after the savagery. Sheriff Newton says the evidence is being tested at the Indiana State Police crime lab. Investigators say the evidence should confirm the identify of the assailant.
At least one concerned neighbor wrote to ABC21 describing a lost sense of safety and security in the town of about 1,200 people.
