3 men fire bullets into air near Fort Wayne students getting off school bus, according to police

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – Police said three men fired bullets into the air near students getting off a school bus.

Police said several high school students started walking home when three men walked behind them and started firing shots in the air on Tuesday afternoon. This happened in the 2900 block of Winter Street.

Two middle school students said the bullets pierced through their front window and hit their upstairs bedroom. They said one bullet missed one boy’s head by a couple feet.

“It surprised me and I didn’t know what was happening,” said Oscar Munoz, a middle school student.

“I just feel we were real real lucky to not get hit,” said Diego Munoz, a middle school student.

Moments after the shooting, one woman said she saw two men walk behind her house and drop a wrapped object into a trash can. Police said they recovered a gun.

“I didn’t know what it was, but the way they were putting it in there so carefully, it made me think why?” Angelina Ortiz, a neighbor said.

Several neighbors said they are worried for their kids’ safety and that they hope the shootings will stop.

“I shouldn’t be scared or concerned when my kids get off the bus,” Ortiz said.

Police said no injuries were reported and no arrests were made. Officers are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspects. If you have any information that can help the Fort Wayne Police Department, please call Crime Stoppers at 260-436-STOP.
