ANGOLA, Ind. (WPTA21) — Two people were taken into custody after leading police on a chase from the scene of an armed robbery.
The Angola Police Department said officers responded to a gas station early Wednesday morning on a report of an armed robbery. An officer was nearby when the call came in and was able to locate the suspect vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Fort Wayne.
The driver led police on a chase onto the interstate, when an officer used stop sticks to flatten the vehicle’s tires. The Ashley-Hudson Police Department says the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour through the construction zone when it hit the stop sticks.
Police say the driver and passenger ran away from the vehicle. They were able to catch the passenger, a 16-year-old boy, who was wanted out of Allen County for escape.
A few hours later, the department said officers from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department found the driver, 27-year-old Jared Starkey.
Charges are pending as of the time of this report for the passenger for armed robbery and resisting arrest. The investigation remains ongoing as of the time of this report.
