Hunters invited to upcoming education course

ROME CITY, Ind. (WPTA21) — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is inviting current and future farmers to an upcoming course and cookout.

The Indiana Hunter Education Courses are taking place at Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site located at 1205 Pleasant Point in Rome City.

The course teaches people about a variety of subjects including safe firearm use and handling while hunting and in the home; hunter ethics and responsibility; game identification; and conservation management.

After the two-day course is the Wild Game Cookout. People get to try a variety of wild game meats. There will also be vegetarian options available.

The course takes place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on September 28 and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on October 5. The cookout is on October 6 starting at 6 p.m.

Hunter education is required for people wanting to buy a hunting license for anyone born after December 31, 1986. People wanting to participate in the courses can register online by September 26.
