Fort Wayne residents share ideas on how to improve southeast part of city

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – Fort Wayne residents attended a meeting and shared their ideas on how to improve the southeast part of the city.

The Southeast Area Partnership and City of Fort Wayne kicked off their week-long meetings on Monday to discuss ways to improve the southeast part of Fort Wayne.

Consultants with Yard & Company asked residents questions about what’s working and what needs to be changed in the area.

ABC21 spoke with a few residents who said the southeast part of the city needs more public transportation, restaurants and grocery stores.

“It’s very frustrating having to go 20-30 minutes out just to get a few couple of items that you can get down the street,” said Deshawn Davis, lives in the southeast part of Fort Wayne.

A few other residents said the meeting was a great first step, however, seeing the city follow up with action is what matters.

“It’s important if they take it to heart and not have the meeting and brush it under the rug,” said Ken Kelley, lives in the southeast part of Fort Wayne.

“We can talk all we want to talk, but until something is done and actions comes forth, that means we’re just talking in the wind,” said Henry Ettasavage, lives in the southeast part of Fort Wayne.

A few consultants said they will incorporate residents’ insights into a series of options to be evaluated at the wrap-up event prior to being packaged in the city’s overall southeast plan.

The meeting started at 5:00 P.M. and ended at 7:00 P.M. The event was held in the same plaza as the previous K-Mart used to operate in (7500 block of South Anthony Boulevard).
