Oorah! Marine Corps birthday celebrated by local VA health center

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – The 244th birthday of the United States Marine Corps was celebrated on Thursday at the Fort Wayne campus of the Veterans Administration of Northern Indiana Health Care System.

The event happened a few days early, as the official birthday for the Corps is Nov. 10, 1775.

The Marines were established by the Second Continental Congress, which called for the formation of two battalions.

Today, the Corps comprises about 182,000 active Marines along with thousands of reserves.
