Local marching bands take aim at state championship

INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) – Marching bands from six northeastern Indiana high schools will play for a state title at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.

Homestead, Carroll, North Side, Concordia, Woodlan and Norwell advanced to the ISSMA State Marching Band Finals by scoring among the highest totals in their respective divisions at Semi-State last weekend.

For Carroll High School, a mechanical mishap nearly cost them the opportunity.

The school’s band truck broke down on the way to Semi-State, and only a mass scramble managed to get the gear where it needed to go in the nick of time. They’re hoping for a smoother trip this time around.

Admission is $22 for adults and $18 for students and pre-schoolers. Babies under two years of age, carried in arms and not occupying a seat, will be admitted free.

Gates open at 9 a.m. and the first band will take the field at 9:25 a.m. North Side is the first of the local schools on the schedule, performing at 11:15 a.m.

Ten schools compete in each of the four “open classes.”
