Whitko joins growing list of school districts closing for ‘Red For Ed’ day

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) — With nearly one-third of their teachers requesting personal days on November 19, Whitko Community Schools says they will close for the day.

The teachers are taking the day off to take part in the “Red For Ed” rally at the Indiana Statehouse. The point of the event is to advocate for better teacher pay and other issues important to teachers.

Whitko Superintendent Brandon Penrod says the district will make up the day on February 17.

So far, over 70 districts across the state have canceled classes for the day.
