More than 300 Runners Participate in this year’s Turkey Trot 5k

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A chilly morning didn’t stop hundreds of people from running at this year’s Turkey Trot 5k.

The 25th annual race took place Sunday at Fox Island County Park, and more than 300 people came out to take part.

Organizers say part of the registration and the proceeds will go to help keep the park maintained.

Despite the cold temperatures, a few participants say the running community is what keeps them coming back each year.

“The race was awesome today. Fox Island is a great trial system. The trails were well maintained. Course well marked. Lots of awesome volunteers. A little chilly, but once you’re moving. The sun hits you and it feels great.”    – Andrew Gritzmaker, Runner

Organizers say this year’s attendance was record-breaking and the highest they’ve had in the past 25 years.

Winners of the race received a plate of food, and others received a pie.
