Warsaw man dead after train crashes into car

LIGONIER, Ind. (WPTA21) - A Warsaw man is dead after Noble County Police said an Amtrak train struck his car Wednesday evening.

Police said 41-year-old William Sanford, of Warsaw, tried to cross the tracks in front of an oncoming train just before 11 p.m. Wednesday,

He died at the scene.

Police and first responders learned about a crash at the Perry Road at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing.

That's west of Gerber Street in Ligonier.

Once police got to the scene, they found an Amtrak Train stopped on the tracks and the car that had been struck.

No one else was hurt, and Sanford was the only one inside the car.
