Woman accused of setting mattress on fire now faces arson charge

LAFAYETTE FIRE 2020

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A woman who prosecutors say sparked a house fire this week did so because she was angry at her father, court documents revealed.

Adrianna Malone, 21, is facing a single felony arson charge in connection to a house fire earlier this week.

Adrianna Malone, 21, is facing a felony arson charge.

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, Fort Wayne Firefighters were called out to a home in the 1900 block of Lafayette Street after someone saw smoke showing on the first floor.

Crews rushed to the scene, ensured no one was inside and got the fire under control in about 8 minutes.

Fort Wayne Police believe this was no accident.

According to court documents obtained by ABC21, Adrianna Malone was renting an apartment with a roommate at the house that had been converted into a duplex.

At the time of the fire, only one of the apartments was being used.

Detectives spoke to Malone at the fire scene, and she told police she had recently been kicked out of the apartment and that she was mad.

Malone admitted to setting the mattress on fire and did so because she said her father kicked her out of his home.

First responders took two butane lighters from her when she was taken into custody.

No one was hurt.
