FedEx text scam prompts warnings to be alert

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A scam that hooks victims via a text that appears to come from shipping giant FedEx is prompting warnings from the company and from law enforcement agencies.

The crooks use an authentic looking text message to notify recipients of a package that is supposedly ready for delivery.

It includes a link that, if clicked, takes the recipient to a scammer-operated site and begins the process of separating the victim from personal information and money.

The text can look legitimate, making it difficult to identify as fake.

FedEx notes that it is aware of the scam and has posted information about it and other attempts to trick the public on the company's website.
