Teen facing murder charge appears in court for initial hearing

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A 16-year-old who is being tried as an adult in the murder of a teenager just days before Christmas appeared before a judge Thursday morning.

Senaca V. James is accused of murder and a gun charge in the death of 18-year-old Dominique Taylor.

These serious charges mean he will be tried as an adult.

During his initial hearing, he asked for a public defender.

On December 22nd, police say 18-year-old Dominique Taylor was shot at Villa Capri Apartments.

Her mother, Brandy Parrish, says its a day she will never forget.

"I guess its the most horrible feeling in the world to get a phone call in the middle of the night that something tragic has happened to your daughter," Parrish said.

"My daughter was 18 years old with a huge future, she had so many dreams…so many things she wanted to do….and just to have her life taken away like it meant nothing to anybody."

He's due back in court on Feb. 7 for a hearing.
