How to find free tax help

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Tax season has arrived and several organizations in the city are offering free help to qualifying taxpayers.

Taxpayers who made less than $56,000 in 2019 will qualify for free tax preparation. The United Way of Allen County is partnering with the Volunteer Center and Catholic Charities Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend to do the work.

“As one of United Way’s focus areas is to help families gain financial stability, the VITA program is critical in helping our families save each dollar possible on their tax preparation fees,” said Tiffany Bailey, VP of Community Impact at United Way of Allen County in a written statement.

“By keeping those dollars in the pockets of our families it could mean the difference between paying bills to rebuild credit, building their savings, or furthering their education”.

The program will run from January 27 to April 13.

Allen County residents can contact the Volunteer Center at (260) 424-3505. Residents in DeKalb, Noble and Steuben counties can contact Catholic Charities at (260) 925-0917.
