OSSIAN, Ind. (WPTA21) - The man held responsible for beating an 18-month-old child to death in Ossian will learn his sentence in court Thursday.

Brent C. Scheiber entered a guilty plea to aggravated battery in the death of 1-year-old Kamryn Price.

Scheiber was preliminarily charged with murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death and aggravated battery.

There was no agreement with the sentence that would be imposed, so Judge Kenton Kirocofe has full discretion to the sentence.

A level 1 felony typically ranges from 20 to 40 years behind bars.

ABC21 previously reported police were called to a home in the 500 block of Greenwood Trail on Jan. 7, 2019, to a child that had reportedly fallen from a crib and wasn’t breathing.

The child was pronounced brain dead around 10:42 am on January 12, 2019.

Brent Scheiber, the mother's boyfriend at the time, was the man who called the police, saying the toddler fell out of the crib while he was changing.

Doctors examining the toddler said the injuries were consistent with a violent shaking injury and were extremely unlikely to occur with a single fall.

Another doctor said the skull fracture appeared to represent a blunt-force trauma that was circular and roughly the size of a fist.
