SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WPTA21) - Thousands of aborted fetal remains will be buried in a service taking place Wednesday in South Bend, Indiana's Attorney General said.

The interment comes five months after they were discovered at the home of Dr. Ulrich Klopfer following his death. Dozens more were located at a Chicago-area business where Klopfer stored several vehicles.

Over a span of decades, Klopfer performed abortions at clinics including locations in Fort Wayne, Gary and South Bend.

The discovery of the remains prompted investigations that have thus far offered few answers, but led to calls bu some for a burial service.

It will happen at 1 p.m. at Southlawn Cemetery and Palmer Funeral Home, located in the 61400 block of US 31 in South Bend.

Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill is expected to update the investigation at that time.

Klopfer's medical license was suspended in 2017 for poor record-keeping and failure to properly monitor his patients.

The Fort Wayne clinic closed in 2014.
