Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened this afternoon in the 6000 block of County Road South 500 East in Marion.

Marion, Ind. - (WPTA21) Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened this afternoon in the 6000 block of County Road South 500 East.

Grant County Coroner Stephen Dorsey has confirmed Steven Nickell, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:59 p.m.

In a press release, The Grant County Sheriff’s Department says they received a 911 call around 1 p.m. from a subject stating that he had just shot and killed an intruder at the residence of 6111 South 500 East.

Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, Gas City Police, Fairmount Police responded and EMS responded.

Officers took two subjects located outside the residence into protective custody and transported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department to be interviewed.

Officers discovered a white male lying on the floor near the backdoor of the home who was suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Officers and ambulance personal were unable to locate any vital signs on the subject.

"At this time no other suspect(s) are believed to be at large and the public is not in any immediate danger, as it relates to this case," the Grant County Sheriffs Department said in a press release.

The investigation is ongoing the Sheriff'd Department said.
