WABASH COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) - Authorities tell ABC21 a pilot was critically injured when a helicopter crashed near State Road 114, about 1.5 miles west of North Manchester.

Wabash County Sheriff Ryan Baker says the call came in around 6:13 p.m.

Firefighters and medics found the aircraft in a field behind a property on State Road 114.

Authorities flew the victim to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The Sheriff's department says they don't know what caused the helicopter to crash.

"We do not really deal with helicopter crashes," Sheriff Baker told us, elaborating on the challenges it poses, "manpower is our only real challenge - to secure the scene until the FAA gets here to conduct their investigation."

Sheriff Baker also says, FAA investigators will examine the site Monday morning.
