One person dead after crashing into utility poles

AUBURN, Ind. (WPTA21)- An Auburn man is dead after crashing into a utility pole, Saturday.

The Auburn Police Department found 64-year-old William A. Nelson pinned inside his vehicle and dead at the scene.

Police say they arrived to 1600 block of W Auburn Drive to a single vehicle accident. When they arrived on scene, they spotted a Red GMC Pickup just west of the I-69 overpass.

Police say the vehicle had left the roadway traveling east on Auburn Drive when it became airborne and struck the utility pole. When it landed it stuck another utility pole and took down some power lines.

The cause of the crash is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
