ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) - The Allen County Prosecutor's office agreed to release 25 inmates with misdemeanor charges from the jail early in response to coronavirus concerns.

According to Court Executive John McGauley with Allen Superior Court, the Court consulted with the Prosecutor’s Office on ways to manage the jail population during the COVID-19 emergency.

Judge Fran Gull spoke with Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mike McAlexander and the Prosecutor’s Office agreed to let low level, non-violent offenders who had less than 30 days to serve to get released early from their sentence to make room at the jail.

Allen County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Capt. Steve Stone said 25 inmates were released on Wednesday.

Allen Superior Court said they are not aware of COVID-19 cases at the jail.
