Animal Care & Control preaches social distancing with pets

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Your dog or cat might not catch the novel coronavirus, but they can still pass it on.

That's the warning from Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, which is advising animal lovers to practice social distancing with potential four-legged friends.

"While they can’t contract the virus, they kind of work like a surface that germs can be on," the agency shared in a Facebook Post on Friday. "Make sense?"

For that reason, people are advised not to pet animals that aren't their own.

Animal Care & Control officials are also reminding families to keep their pets on a leash when they enjoy any time outdoors with them.
