FORT WAYNE (WPTA21)- Jada Burton is a sophomore at Concordia Lutheran High School. Burton and her grandparents have been working the last few weeks to protect those vulnerable to the Covid-19 Virus.

They are making masks to protect residents in assisted living homes. So far, the trio has worked to make 450 masks and had given them out to Lutheran Life Villages around Fort Wayne.

Burton says that she got the idea when her mom. Her mom told her that face masks were running out at an assisted living home she was working for. She also explains that she took it upon herself to help those in need because of her school teaches the students to always give back to the community.

Burton explains to make a mask, you need two rectangular fabric pieces sewn together with the elastic to go around the ears. It takes roughly 10 minutes to make one mask. She has made a total of 450 masks to be given away for free.

Supplies of elastics are running short at local stores which has halted the production of masks. Burton hopes to make 450 more face masks in the future.
