HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WPTA21) - A Huntington judge sentenced a man to prison after the man admitted he committed sex crimes against children.
He and his girlfriend were facing a slew of child sex crimes involving three children.
In December 2019, ABC21 previously reported the charges against 40-year-old Alissa Thomas and her boyfriend 39-year-old Jeremy Helvie.
Late last month, a Huntington Judge sentenced Helvie to 16 years with two suspended. That means Helvie will have to serve 14 years behind bars with two years of probation.
Through a plea deal, Helvie pleaded guilty to child molesting with a child under 14, and child exploitation with aggravating circumstance charges.
A child molesting charge, possession of child pornography and performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor charge were all dropped.
The judge also ordered Helvie to pay $1,815 in court fees and fines, and granted him 137 days of jail credit.
The no contact order for the victim will also remain in place.
The court is also allowing a psychological evaluation for Thomas while at the same time moving forward with her sentencing hearing.
Her sentencing hearing is set for July 20.
The 11-page probable cause document details the alleged sexual abuse that occurred between Thomas, Helvie and the minors.
According to court documents, Thomas took nude photos of a preschooler and texted them to Helvie.
Documents also detail Thomas took nude photos of herself in the presence of another child.
A third minor victim told detectives she received nude photos of Thomas on her cellphone.
Police said at one point Thomas and Helvie were having sex with the preschooler in the same bed, involving the child in the sex-act.
The alleged crimes happened between November 2018 and November 2019.
