Momentum is building for defunding police departments around the U.S.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Two people among the 29 who were arrested when protests morphed into clashes with police and vandalism on Friday were out-of-state residents, police told ABC21 on Sunday.

Two others are Hoosiers from outside of Allen County. The other 25 are local residents.

The information was provided by the Fort Wayne Police Department at the request of ABC21, and it follows concerns expressed on Saturday by Mayor Tom Henry that outside "agitators" were part of the reason peaceful demonstrations turned rowdy.

"We have reason to believe that a number of these agitators aren't even from Fort Wayne or Allen County itself," he said. "They came here to cause trouble."

The two non-Hoosiers are residents of Michigan, an FWPD spokesperson told ABC21.

More arrests were made on Saturday, during a second day of protests and unrest. Figures from that day were not immediately available.
