Man pulled from St. Marys River, but dies

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A man pulled from the St. Marys River in south Fort Wayne Sunday night died.

The adult grandson of the victim told ABC21 that his grandfather was taken to a local hospital but did not survive.

Emergency dispatchers confirmed the death, which happened where the river runs along Fairfield Ave., near Gerke.

The two men were walking together along the bank when the elder man fell in.

His grandson called for help and rescue crews rushed to the scene, pulling the man from the water a short time later.
