When police arrived, they found 34-year-old Manuel Mendez in the front yard of a home.

He died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Fort Wayne Police said the incident began when Mendez confronted 26-year-old Timothy Hall Jr. about pointing a gun at someone, and not wanting Hall to drive under the influence with a child.

That's when police said Hall shot Mendez.

Homicide detectives said they later arrested Hall after a pursuit with officers.

During the chase, police said Hall crashed his car twice with a 2-year-old child inside.

The second time he crashed, his car stopped working.

Police said the child is OK.

Timothy Hall Jr., 26, is now preliminarily charged with aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, neglect of a dependent and carrying a handgun without a permit.
