Prosecutor upgrades charges against suspect in fatal stabbing

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Allen County prosecutors have charged a 51-year-old man with murder in stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Homicide Detectives arrested David Lee Cortez Suel last week in connection to the stabbing death of 48-year-old Crystal C. Holmes.

He was preliminarily charged with aggravated battery and failure to register as a child molester.

Those charges were dismissed, and he's now facing a murder charge.

The violence happened at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Baldwin Creek Apartments in the 2100 block of Hobson Road.

Suel called 911 to say someone stabbed a woman during an armed robbery.

But before he called, investigators say Suel tried to clean up the evidence before they arrived.

However, police learned the suspect and the victim were in a romantic relationship, leading them to believe the case was a domestic altercation and not a robbery at all.

Holmes was rushed to the hospital where she died from a stab wound to the chest.
