Fort Wayne man charged for crash that killed motorcyclist

May 25 Spring at Rumsey car vs. motorcycle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A local man has been charged with two felony counts -- four months after he was involved in a crash that killed a motorcyclist.

Dean Hazelett, 67, faces DUI (causing a death) and reckless homicide charges stemming from the Memorial Day wreck at Rumsey and Spring Street.

Witnesses said the vehicle Hazelett was in failed to yield the right of way and caused the crash, killing James K. Markey.

In a report by ABC21 at the time of the preliminary investigation, officers said that Hazelett wasn't hurt and cooperated with investigators.

They noted that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.

UPDATE: Hazelett was arrested on Sept. 17 and booked into the Allen County Jail. His initial hearing was set for Sept. 21.
