POLICE: Wrong man arrested in homicide case, charges filed against new suspect

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) -- Fort Wayne Police say they have a new homicide suspect in custody after new evidence cleared a man arrested earlier this week.

Fort Wayne Police originally sent out a release Tuesday saying they arrested a man in connection to a shooting that killed James Hines on September 22.

However, police say new evidence now points to Eric D. Tate, 59, as the person responsible for the shooting. Officers arrested Tate Wednesday evening at gas station on U.S. 30 and Interstate 469.

The man previously arrested is no longer facing any charges in connection to the case.

Tate faces one charge of murder.
