FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Fort Wayne distillery Three Rivers Distilling Company is preparing to offer an option they hope will make diners feel more comfortable eating out during the pandemic.
Three Rivers just received a shipment of igloos they'll install on the patio of their Wallace Street business.
The distillery's president Marla Schneider tells ABC21 the igloos will have a thick, clear plastic covering.
The igloos measure 12 feet across and seven feet high in the center and can hold up to eight people.
A space heater inside the igloo will bring the temperature to about 65 degrees during the winter.
"Fewer people want to be out here even with the heaters and the fire pits. That's still a little bit of a limiting factor for us having the large outdoor space. So the igloos were actually an idea we had last year but this year seemed like the perfect year to implement these with everything going on from the pandemic standpoint," said Schneider.
The igloos will open to customers October 28th, but the reservation system is already up and running on the distillery's website.
There will also be a food and drink minimum to dine in an igloo, which the distillery says will help offset costs.
