FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Crews finished installing the large Colorado Spruce that will be illuminated later for the annual Christmas on Broadway celebration.

Nestled on the corner of Broadway outside the Shine & Hardin building, the tree will be lit during a scaled-back ceremony on Friday.

Last year, strong winds toppled the 40-foot Colorado Spruce outside the Broadway Plaza. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Crews installing the tree this year are taking extra precautions to secure the tree to the base.

"It takes a lot of experience and a lot of specialized equipment," Dan Mudrack of Mudrack Tree Service said.

"We'll get it centered over the base, and then lower it down gently until it's back in the spot where it sets. Once we get that done, we'll run cables up and secure the tree to the cables and make the final set."

Because of increased COVID-19 spread in Allen County and beyond, organizers are encouraging folks to stay home to watch the event on ABC21 here..
