Coroner ID’s 23-year-old man shot outside apartments


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - The Allen County Coroner's Office identified the man shot and killed outside an apartment building earlier this week.

Just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, someone called 911 to report gunshots in the 1000 block of Ridgewood Drive.

Several other people called police to report shots being fired, and one caller told dispatchers they thought someone had been shot.

Once on scene, police found a man lying outside of an apartment building suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Medics rushed the man to the hospital with critical injuries, but the man later died at the hospital.

The Allen County Coroner's Office has identified the man as 23-year-old Hakeem Omer cage of Fort Wayne.

He was shot multiple times and his death was ruled a homicide.

Cage's death marks the 43rd homicide in Allen County this year.
