BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WPTA21) -- Former IPFW men's basketball head coach Dane Fife will return to where his coaching career began.

Monday, Indiana announces it has hired on Fife as an assistant coach under new head coach Mike Woodson.

Fife played for the Hoosiers from 1998-2002. He's the program's career leader with 180 steals.

After graduating, Fife stayed in Bloomington, starting his coachinc career as an administrative assistant under head coach Mike Davis.

That experience helped him land his first head coaching gig at IPFW. Fife led the Mastodons for six seasons, and the Mastodons improved their winning percentage every year under Fife.

In 2011, Fife left Fort Wayne to take an assistant job on Tom Izzo's staff at Michigan State.
