Komets fall in OT at Wheeling

WHEELING, W.V. (WPTA21) -- Despite solid nights from a couple Fort Wayne natives on Wednesday night, the Komets lost in overtime at Wheeling, 4-3.

Brandon Hawkins opened up the scoring for Fort Wayne, with the only goal in the first period.

Wheeling tied things up early in the the second on a score from Matt Miller, but two minutes later Blake Siebenaler sent in another Komets goal to put his team back in front.

The Nailers tied things up again midway through the third, on a goal from Matt Alfaro. Once again, the Komets had a quick answer, 49 seconds later, on a goal from Fort Wayne's Jackson Leef.

With 1:11 left in regulation, A.J. Jenks got called for a tripping minor, and the Nailers took advantage. Cody Sylvester scored three seconds into the power play, sending the game to overtime.

Sylvester played the hero in OT as well, notching the game-winning goal.

The Komets return to Indiana for three games this weekend. They'll play at Indy on Friday night, before hosting the Fuel on Saturday and Sunday.
