MASS SHOOTING: 8 people killed; Several with injuries at Indy FedEx facility

INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) - At least 8 people have been shot and killed and multiple people are injured late Thursday night at a FedEx facility near Indianapolis International Airport.

In a police briefing early Friday morning, IMPD officer Genae Cook said a male shooter was found dead. Police believe he took his own life.

Officer Cooks says, "Preliminary information at this time is that the shooter has taken his own life. We don't feel that there is an active threat to the community at this time. We have multiple people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. We have others that have been transported to various hospitals throughout the area."Police said when they arrived, they encountered a "mass shooting" scenario at the logistics facility near the Indianapolis airport.

Cook asked families who had not heard from their loved ones to meet at the Holiday Inn Indianapolis Airport, which is southeast of the FedEx facility where officers and chaplains would be available.

Witnesses described hearing gunshots just after 11:00 pm Thursday at the facility which is one of the largest FedEx hubs in the world. It employs more than 4,000 people.
