ROANOKE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A grand opening celebration marked the arrival of a new outdoors attraction with a focus on preservation and education.
LC Nature Park in Roanoke welcomed its first official guests on Saturday.
The event featured activities for children, a presentation by Soarin'Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation and tours of the property.
The nonprofit group behind the project says it did it to create "a one-of-a-kind, immersive educational experience, supporting classroom curriculum about the native ecosystems of Indiana."
Elk and bison make the property their home, and a walking trail takes visitors through the lush vegetation that has been preserved and restored.
LC Nature Park will host summer camps and other events.
Visitation is by appointment and for organized events.
The park is located in the 9700 block of Aboite Road.
